Move the dial on your radio just slightly toward 1460 on your dial. if yes continue on if not then you are going to adjust trimmer C-13. Knobs pointing away from you so your looking at the same arrangement as the trimmer parts diagram on 8-44. Hopefully this weak station will get a lot louder as you peak up those 4 trimmers. next grab your small screwdriver and peak up for strongest signal 2 trimmers in each of T1 and T2 the IF cans on the topside of your chassis. I see a couple in the listings that are in the 1400 plus or minus range a bit. NowTune in some station up near the top end of the AM band that you can hear. Same with the tone control Full Clockwise. #2 Set the selectivity switch to Narrow position. #1 Read the alignment instructions as to being sure that your dial pointer is pointed the right direction. All references to trimmers are based on your riders page 8-44 for location of trimmers. And possibly one other station near the top end of the AM broadcast band that you can barely hear. we will be using Off Air Stations that are supposed to be strong in your area. And as you approach -19 volts the eye should then be totally closed. Which on a 6U5/G5 tube will do next to nothing. Weak to no station is apparently your -8 volts. Strong station should make the voltage go more negative. The source is the signal strength of incoming stations. Be sure that your AVC line is all correct parts and wired correctly. I was hoping I could try and isolate the -8 volts source and see why the AVC wasn't changing.Ĭheck what Norm is talking about first. The tools at my disposal for this project are basically a multi-meter and a soldering iron. Thanks John, I am more of a shade tree mechanic than an ASE mechanic for this project. 20 feet or more should provide adequate additional negative AVC voltage to make the eye tube at least close part way. We are assuming it is Negative 8 volts? Yet constant regardless of station tuned in or not tuned in? I ask here what are you using for an Antenna? A couple feet isn't an antenna. Ground the shield under the chassis and trim the shield back from the grid cap an inch and put some heat shrink on to keep the shield from becoming connected to the grid cap of the tube.Īlso your reading this 8 volts. I would replace that shielded wire with a piece of small coaxial cable. The wire from the AVG to the Magic Eye reads around 8 volts, regardless of where it is tuned.Įxcellent finally some progress. Magic Eye still doesn't respond to signal strength. Perhaps the wire is so old it has some issues inside the insulation. I checked for loose connections but found nothing. I still have to tap and wiggle the AVG top cap wire to get any volume. I replaced the 6L7G and voltages look good, around 93 volts.
